Physical Therapy & CranioSacral Therapy Defined by Don

Physical Therapy is founded on touch.Physical Therapy is founded on touch.

I view physical therapy as a way to bring about harmony in the physical body. Harmony includes a balance of mind, body, and our spiritual nature, and in this instance, how the three aspects of self, work to create a living, breathing, mobile, conscious biological unit. Physical Therapy is a group of methods used to promote healing, optimize function and generate a sense of health and well being. Function includes range of motion, strength, and awareness. Well being includes contentment, feeling loved and happiness. People who might benefit from this service of physical therapy are those who have incurred injury and lost function, health and lack a sense of well being.

Alliance PT offers the physical therapy known as CranioSacral Therapy. CST is a gentle manual touch technique to help the body release tension and restrictions in connective tissue in and around muscles, joints, nerves, and organs. It particularly addresses tensions and injuries to the central nervous system and organs of the brain. A large part of CranioSacral Therapy also includes Somato-Emotional Release, which assists the patient to become aware of, and release, emotional holdings in the body. A person in pain may be worried and upset, as well as limited in physical movement. Addressing the tension and limitation caused by emotions, I believe, is ultimate Physical Therapy.  CranioSacral Therapy is a wonderful tool in helping the patient to relax, decrease the effects of tension, stress, anxiety and pain.

Emotions and feelings held in tissues can be the underlying cause of disease. This often goes undiagnosed and untreated, keeping the patient from being "at ease" in their own body.Once these issues have changed for the patient, standard physical therapy modalities can be employed like moist heat, massage, exercise, postural awareness, and independent home exercise programs.
Addressing emotional, as well as physical, aspects of disability can lead the patient to self awareness, self reliance, independence, improved physical function and an optimal state of well being.
